APRA and Copyright

We often get asked "can I play a radio on hold" or "can I have Kylie Minogue (for example) playing behind my on hold production?"

Well, yes you can, but it will incur extra costs.

Companies playing the radio or commercial music on hold need to purchase an annual licence from APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association). The reason for this is that the artists who produce the songs need to get paid 'royalties' every time their song is 'broadcast' to the public, and that includes being played on hold.

Rather than setting you up for these extra costs, M2 On Hold uses only Royalty Prepaid music created by non-APRA members in our productions. Whilst the music we use may not be Top 40, it is perfect for creating the right mood and entertaining callers while they wait on hold.

Should you decide that you just can't live without Guns 'n' Roses (for example) behind your on hold message, and you go ahead and purchase an APRA license to be able to do so, you'll just need to provide our studio with the songs you require (as unfortunately our library doesn't include much late 80's rock metal).
