Welcome to M2 On Hold

  • There's nothing golden about silence. When customers are waiting in the queue, silence or boredom is an invitation to do something else
  • Don't keep telling customers to continue to hold. Customers find this irritating. They already know how this works
  • Keep information paragraphs short, low-key and to the point. The message should be informational - don't be pushy!
  • The hold queue should be viewed as an opportunity to talk about products and services, offer a toll-free number for future calls or a fax number
  • Talk about your website. Because the best thing in the world that can happen to you is that the customer will visit it during the time on hold.
  • Use On Hold as an opportunity to tell customers about other products. Using the phone to tell them is a critical link. There's already a relationship. It's been proven that people will do repeat business with a company they're comfortable with
  • Incorporate thematic elements into an on hold message. Tie in mottos or slogans used in brochures or even yellow page ads as part of a complete marketing mix
  • Give our production team an activity schedule of what you're planning to do over the year to ensure your messages are up to date and current
  • Watch for excessive repetitiveness. The first and second time a caller hears the same message is okay, but once they hear the same message on a third call (or the third time within a call) you're in the danger zone
  • On-hold messaging is a cheap, easy way to keep people from hanging up. You can have someone else do nearly all the work, while you reap the benefits. How often does that happen?
